Hosted by local activists, this Families Belong Together event is part of a national day of action focused on shining light on the brutal decision by the current administration to remove children from their families when they are crossing the border of the US.
The administration has backpedaled a little bit since the initial order, but their solution is now to jail entire families (as well as children) while immigration proceedings unfold (which can often take years). Additionally, the administration has made no move to reunite with their families the approximately 2,000 children who have already been taken.
Until those children are reunited with their families, they will remain in “baby jail,” and our focus must remain with them.
Until the administration ceases jailing entire families for the crime of fleeing unsafe conditions in their homelands, our efforts to free them must be ceaseless.
